PERL compile missing ZLIB error

After getting a notification that PERL needed upgrading, I ran the recommended steps to do so (using http://layer1.cpanel.net/perl588installer.tar.gz). After completion, I run "/usr/local/cpanel/bin/checkperlmodules", and got this:

Running make install
Make had returned bad status, install seems impossible
perlmod--Install done
Tested 122, 116 ok, 6 failed.
Failed install: Compress::Raw::Zlib
Failed install: IO::Compress::Gzip
Failed install: IO::Uncompress::Gunzip
Failed install: Archive::Zip
Failed install: Compress::Zlib
Failed install: Mail::SPF

I'd appreciate a pointer to helping resolve this, with the most important being Zlib, as Cpanel is now complaining it can't do it's thing without it.

CENTOS 4.8 i686 standard

Managed to use Cpan to fix all but this one:
Failed install: Mail::SPF
