/etc/init.d/httpd restart: httpd not running, trying to start

/etc/init.d/httpd restart: httpd started

when i comment php doesnt compile but i obtain the domian in the URL except for php pages..
for php pages i get 500 error
AddModule mod_frontpage.c
#AddModule mod_php4.c
AddModule mod_bandwidth.c


when i uncomment it
AddModule mod_php4.c
the whole server is down
thnough the httpd server restarts at the console..but the server is down on the url?
