Can anyone please provide any advice/insight for the following?

I have a cpanel/WMH server that runs a few phpbb forums. I like that the cpanel/WHM interface can automatically update the phpbb installations, which is extremely convenient for staying on top of updates.

The problem is: if I make any modifications to the subsilver style, they get wiped out when the updates occur and the style goes back to the default phpbb style. This is really annoying!

I only make small modifications to the styles, and it would be ok if I could 'clone' the subSilver style then modifiy it from there. If I did that, would the updates still be effective and would the new style be left intact?? (also is there a simple way to 'clone' a style?)
