Default Please help with email issue

I need to be able to setup email accounts on a domain in cpanel that do NOT require the full email address as the username.... so that ONLY the first part (actual email username) is all that is needed to outlook express.

I emailed Burst and tech told me to use addpop or something (have to check my email) and it works in setting up accounts but it\'s the same thing as setting them up in cpanel... the full email address is used as the username.

    Thanks for any help.

Like anything else on this system... the *only* logins that DO NOT include a domain name (@WHATEVER.COM).... are the primary accounts for each domain you configure.

That is, when you setup an account \"popularity.org\" with a base user of \"popular\"..... the CPanel user/main FTP user/catch-all (default) mail account/ everything that is *base*, has a username of \"popular\".... everything else is \"LOGIN@popularity.org\".

The *only* way to provide something else, is if you assign a UNIQUE IP to the account in question that requires logins without the domain included. If you have a huge wealth of free address space, then this should not be a problem for you. However, name based hosting in the shared environment is almost becomming required, while it is a solid necessity already.

Thanks for explaining that. I have wondered why CPanel required the full email address as the email username. Now I know what to tell my customers!

I know how the email system works normally.. thank you for the reply... but the last part is the answer I was looking for hopefully. So if the domain is using a dedicated IP #, then the email user names do not have to include the domain name?

    Thanks.

Is this something new? We have always had to have the user use name@domain.com even if on a static IP, but now after reading this, we tried what you suggested and it is true.

    When did this come about?

It has always been as such?
BOTH login schemes work when a dedicated IP is used... it\'s the way cppop was written, it can handle the USERNAME only transaction on a static IP, but obviously in the shared sense it needs that @DOMAIN.COM to differentiate between similar pop3 users bound to domains on IP(s) you are using with multiple accounts.

As far as I know this has been the case since these new schemes were implemented in the services we\'ve mentioned.

Yes, popping works, but it seems that you still need the full addy and pass when using smtp on the servers.
