Default POP Email Problem - Secured CPanels

We have a problem with a new CPanel Install, Secured CPanels, RH Linux
    ver 7.2, CPanel 4.5.0-Stable Build 50.

Email server will not respond to mail clients trying to read POP3
email. Domain is name based virtual host. Test from server command
line and web mail from CPanel login work just fine. Ping and trace
route to mail.domain.name work just fine. Tests from 2 versions of
Outlook Express and 2 versions of Netscape Communicator from 3
different desktops fail, &no response from server&.

    IMAP fails to authenticate also.

Anyone experienced this? Possible solutions? Testing method to find
problem? I am 2 days into this and brain dead, help!

    Thanks,
    Ron D.

First check is the connection between clients and server reliable.
    I suggest using TCPtraceroute (http://michael.toren.net/code/tcptraceroute/) ./tcptraceroute mail.domain.com 110 runned from client
will check if connection is sucessefull. (NOTE: tcptraceroute works
    only on linux. )

Webmail (neomail) do not connect to POP3 server to retrive mail.
    It uses difrent way.

This may be really left field but try using &domain.com& instead of &mail.domain.com& within Outlook. I have always has intermittent results when including &mail.&.

I resolved this one and thought my experience might help someone else.

We had done the trace routes, pings, command line telnet to the port
and got login, etc . . . so we knew it was a system config problem.

Finally, third look at ipchains revealled an errant entry that was
blocking the POP traffic. It was a straggler record at the very
bottom. I had looked at the entries I knew should be controlling
    this.

Even when in a hurry, don't make assumptions to save time! Mine cost
    me three days of frustration.
