POP3 / SMTP Problems, please help. Urgent

I've got a really odd problem. While trying to check email via outlook I get the following error
Receiving' / Sending' reported error (0x80042109) Outlook is unable to connect to your
outgoing (SMTP/POP3) e-mail server. ect. ect.

now I haven't had this problem before and the server has been up for a year

did a CPanel update screw something up? I am using the latest STABLE release as of yesterday

I even stopped APF, and stopped iptables and still get the same error. I have restarted the
server and restarted cppop with still no sucess.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I need to fix this ASAP so any suggestions/help is
welcome and appreciated.

I would run /scripts/exim4 -force and see if this resolves your problem. If you run any Mailscanner services you may want to stop them and see if that resolves your problem.

Does webmail functions work? Does mail work on other domains or none?

Yes, webmail works find, no pop3 / smtp dosn't work on two of the domains I have tried.

Alright, I used Mozilla Thunderbird, same problem its refusing the connection, even though I have cppop running, and my firewalls are off... So confusing.

telnet yourdomain 110
telnet yourdomain 25

If the above succeeds then it looks like to be an issue with your ISP possibly. Perhaps they are forcing you to authenticate against their smtp servers or something

Right, checked this. When I do it locally I get a reponce. But when I do this remotely via my
computer it says connection refused, now I don't unstand why it would refuse the connection

I flushed the rules from APF and stopped it, and did the same with iptables...

I think I might have to open a ticket. This is rediculous

Sorry about not mentioning to not to test it locally.
I may be wrong. This could also be related to your ISP's settings or something.
Try the Ticket route and do let us know whet the problem was as i remeber a similar case somewhere on this forum.

Well, if you're sure that it's not being blocked by your local firewall or your server firewall... then your ISP is likely blocking port 25... 'for spam control reasons'. Try running exim on a different port (say port 26 - though some Isps are also blocking that port), so try something like 225 as well.

And there was some discussion recently somewhere (I forget exactly where) regarding a few isps apparently blocking port 110 as well... (Which is totally stupid, but it's their customers).

So, you might be a victim of this... complain, deal with it, or switch isps...

brilliant, I think this did happen... Going to try to get ahold of these guys now, not going to help
probably but I will let them know I am upset!

Other people aren't having this problem, and I wouldn't think in years that they would be so
stupid to block a common port. Whats next port 80?
