Question is it possible to run cpanel without a DNS server

    Hello all,

I was wondering if it is possible to have Cpanel run without a DNS server services?

Meaning I currently have a server set up and it is my DNS server and Web server same box.

    ns1.myDomain.com
    ns2.myDomian.com

same box which points to www.mydomain.com
    www.otherDomains.com

So I want to do is to stop using my Web server as a DNS server.
And point to my websites from my registrars DNS server.

So is it possible to downgrade Cpanel DNS services?
    And if how?

It is. And after dealing with a broken named/DNS for the last 6 hours, it's like you're reading my mind.

Unfortunately, my mind is Jell-O right now, but when I can write out or find step-by-step instructions, I'll pass them along to you here.

    Thanks Brian

I asked a cPanel tech about running DNS externally, and he said it's possible but not advisable, as it renders a lot of WHM's automation useless...which is not a good thing.

In my case at least, I think the solution is backup DNS. I had it setup on 2 domains on the server (my business one and my personal one), and it kept mail/http/ftp running, while everyone else's was down, even with named fubared.

I've been meaning to add it server-wide to all clients, just hadn't gotten to it yet.

So....keep BIND, but set up a back up
