Default Problem with backups - want to start from scratch

I have done various changes and reconfigurations and moved things around due to a server migration and now when I look at the restore mode of the whm panel the account names are empty - ie I can't select an account to restore from.

It would seem that although the data is there on the disk it must be somehow corrupt.

Can I "flush" the backups and get cpanel/whm to start again based on the current state of the system? I know I will lose my weekly, monthly and recent days but I am prepared for that - I would just like to know that I am back to a fully automated and reliable system from a restore pov/.

So do I just delete everything in the /backup target directory (I can even tar everything there up and move it off just in case)

    Thoughts appreciated/W

Yes sure, you can simply wipe the backups if you like. Then run the backup:
    /scripts/cpbackup

If in doubt, back it up though. You can't go wrong if you've got backups available (somewhere).
