Well, of course you can purchase a trusted cert, but since you know that your self-signed certificate is secure, and since your customers trust you, simply advise them to ignore the warning. Better yet, recommend that they use Firefox so that they will be prompted to add an "exception" and no longer get the pesky warning when logging in to cPanel.

Thanks but I need a FIX not a workaround. I know how to add an exception in firefox but this doesnt stop the problem for my clients. I have an ssl cert installed on the server so im not sure why this is happening. do i need a 3rd party cert? Cheers Chris
