Default Problem with PureFTPd & WordPress

I am having issues with WordPress plugins installing and updating. On my other server I have switched it from PureFTP to ProFTP, and everything is working fine now.

Not sure what is the problem with PureFTP?

Does anyone faced the same issue?

What kind of problems are you experiencing? Can you please be more specific?

    Hi Chuck,

    Thanks for the reply...

I am facing the wordPress plugins installing and updating problem. But if I switch it to ProFTP... it works fine without any problem.

For testing purpose just install wordpress from fantastico Or manual and then try to upgrade it to the latest release.. I m sure that it will not work.. I have tested it on more than 5 servers and same issue....

    Question

    Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Verifying the unpacked files…

    Installing the latest version…

    Upgrading database…

    WordPress updated successfully

    Actions: Go to Dashboard
Works perfectly for me. Server using PureFTP. Also the server is running SuPHP. If your server is not running SuPHP could it be that the problem is it (the updater from WP) is not able to write to your directories properly?

Exactly what problem are you coming up against? That link mentions the user changed permissions on the plugins directory so that updater could write to them. If your server was running SuPHP you would not need to make these directories world writeable like this to add plugins.

It would also solve your wordpress updating issues as well if thats the problem you have.

Lots of threads on the topic of SuPHP on these forums, here are a few of them:

In the Network there was an information that new versions WordPress (updating and installation of parts over WordPress control panel) aren't compatible with PureFTP.
All decisions are reduced to "I has replaced PureFTP on ProFTP and now all works perfectly" or recommend to use suPHP.

The problem is discussed at WordPress forum:

In configuration DSO PHP without suPHP WordPress updates files by means of FTP.
Certainly, in the presence of the rights to write or with use suPHP he doesn't address to FTP and the problem doesn't appear.

PS: I don't want to use ProFTP or suPHP.
