Problem sending with mutt - 550 Authentication error

Here is a note from a long time user, says he can't send email using mutt anymore to anyone other than addresses in his own account. Only change is that recently we upgraded to cPanel to 10.9.0-R95

...but still I cannot send email from mutt. I can read email from mutt just fine. Like I said, I haven't knowingly changed anything from the way I've been doing things for years. The error message I get when I try to send email is: ssmtp: RCPT TO:<destination email address> (550 Authentication turned on in your email client.) This is the same message I get when my APOP session has timed out. But in this case I have been logged on for only a few seconds, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Knowing next to nothing about mutt, I don't even know where to start with this one.

check if the user's domain exist in the /etc/localdomains file entry.

Thanks but their domain is indeed in the /etc/localdomains file.

Would switching on the following have anything to do with this?

Verify the existence of email senders.
Use callouts to verify the existence of email senders.


We've just switched this on in the exim config via WHM, and it seems about at that same time the user started having problems. (Also updated cPanel to R95 about at that same time).
