    What is going on here:

    root@xxxxx [~]# yum update yum
    Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
    Server: Fedora Core - - Base
    Server: Fedora Core - - Released Updates
    retrygrab() failed for:
    ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distrib...rs/header.info
    Executing failover method
    retrygrab() failed for:
    ftp://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/os/Linux/di...rs/header.info
    Executing failover method
    Finding updated packages
    Downloading needed headers
    No Packages Available for Update
    No actions to take

    root@xxxx [~]# yum update
    Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
    Server: Fedora Core - - Base
    Damaged or Bad header.info from Fedora Core - - Base
    This is probably because of a downed server or an invalid header.info on a repository.

    I also tried the following after updating my yum.conf with some other mirrors i just need to know if these mirrors are bad or if its something else thats keeping yum from working right.

    root@xxxx [~]# yum list
    Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
    Server: Fedora Core 2 - i386 - Base
    retrygrab() failed for:
    ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distrib...rs/header.info
    Executing failover method
    retrygrab() failed for:
    ftp://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/os/Linux/di...rs/header.info
    Executing failover method
    retrygrab() failed for:
    http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca/pub/dist...rs/header.info
    Executing failover method
    retrygrab() failed for:
    http://mirror.clarkson.edu/pub/distr...rs/header.info
    Executing failover method
    retrygrab() failed for:
    http://www.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/f...rs/header.info

    Please update to an Operating System that is still supported by your OS Vendor.

    Fedora Core 2 no longer receives security updates from Redhat or the Fedora Legacy project (which is no more).

    The errors you see are due to mirrors no longer distributing the updates.

    The Fedora project has documentation on upgrading from one version to another, but it's not guaranteed to work. This is the trade-off of using a distribution with such a short support lifetime. Fedora has newer features and kernels before RHEL/CentOS, but is only supported for a few months (~13), requiring a sys admin to constantly upgrade to the newest Fedora version.
