Process running for 5 months?

I have this process running:

root 29843 0.0 0.0 6312 336 ? S Jan25 0:00 vi configure.php

Its been running for 4-5 months, I want to know what it is, tried to issue this command:

fg 29843

get this response:

bash: fg: 29843: no such job


Is this defunct?

Should I just kill it?

How can I see what is actually going on?

Looks like perhaps you were editing configure.php file using VI back then and you either lost the connection and dropped out of VI and the process never actually closed.

Why dont you do a kill -9 29843 to get rid of it? If that is not the process number do a ps aux and find the process number and run the kill command above. If you want to look at hte process before killing it off do a

cd /proc/process# then look at the envir file to see what it contains.

I knew it was something that could have been hung up by having a dropped connection, but I didn't know how to get back to see what was going on. It was a file being edited, just wanted to find out which configure.php it was. Thanks for the proc info...
