This is a problem we have been investigating and documenting for over a year. The problem definitely can be alleviated with the correct configuration, but we are at a loss as to what that might be.

FTP clients can connect fine and perform operations. However when transferring a file or files, immediately after the first file, pureftpd issues a "control session disconnect" for no apparent reason.

Client is irrelevant, as is client platform, firewall, timeout settings, all irrelevant. We even found 3 reports of this "bug" on various webmaster forums where the technicians were never able to solve the problem. If a server has the problem, it is server-wide.

The workaround has been to use ftp clients that reconnect between files, but that is a poor workaround.

We have contacted pureftpd but never received a reply.
