    Question Question about SSL cert

    Hi,
I'm having a bit of trobule installing an SSL cert. I've done this before and it worked perfectly but this time it's not.

Ok, let's say my main server ip is 192.168.0.100 and is also the shared ip.

We'll also say that my hosting company domain is acmehosting.com and is installed on
192.168.0.100, the main server ip and shared ip.

Finally, my host name is "host.acmehosting.com"

This means I am able to access every website as follows...
    http://host.acmehosting.com/~username/

Now, by installing my SSL cert on 192.168.0.100, I should be able to access each site securely like so...
    https://host.acmehosting.com/~username/

According to the rule that a cert must have its own IP, this should not work correct? However, I've made it work before but I cannot remember what I did.

Can someone point me in the right direction to make this work?

To put it differently, how can I set it up so every name based hosting account can have SSL access without a wildcard cert and without errors.

    I'm thinking maybe this...

If I switch acmehosting.com from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.1.101, can the hostname still be host.acmehosting.com (192.168.0.100) and still be able to offer secure access for name based accounts? (https://host.acmehosting.com/~username/)

Thank you in advance for your help!

Yep.. that setup should work... just so long as you don't have the ~username access turned off in cpanel. I think it's under security tweaks.

Is your cert for host.acmehosting.com? If so, you won't be able to install it on the acmehosting.com domain without errors.

Just so I understand you correctly...

In order for SSL to work on the main shared ip
    (https://host.acmehosting.com/~username/)
the domain account "acmehosting.com" must be on another IP (192.168.0.101) besides
    the main server ip (192.168.2.100)?

    Also, configured this way, will
    https://host.acmehosting.com/~acmehost/
    work as well?

    Would this work?

    Main server IP: 192.169.0.100
    Secure domain: acmehosting.com

    https://acmehosting.com/~username/

I think this is how I got it to work before.

    Thanks!

I don't really think half of what you're worrying about even matters... on mine I can do https://anydomainontheserver.com/~username and get put up the index page for any cpanel user on the server. So it doesn't sound like it matters for you which ip it's on? What domain do you want the cert to be on?

I'm not sure how you got the domain on the main server ip... where is the hostname of the server? I'm fairly sure that it should be on the main server ip. I guess you could switch them around manually, I'm just rather surprised that cpanel let you create that mess. I setup my servername.maindomain.com on the main server ip... then setup maindomain.com on another ip - for all the shared ip domains. And I have never had to swap domains or ips around since I set up the server.
