RapidSSL in WHM

I purchased a SSL certificate for my whm hostname today: ryba.mycompany.co.uk, from namecheap.com (rapidSSL option).

Unfortunately, when I go through the WHM process for adding the SSL Cert (logged in as Root, as my reseller login doesn't give me the option to do SSL), I go through the following process:

SSL > Add SSL and setup the Domain >

*Paste certificate*
*Press Tab*

...it autocompletes hostname (ryba.mycompany.co.uk), user (the reseller, not root), and the IP address...

...it doesn't autocomplete the private key, so I paste that from the email it sent me....

...it's filled in the CA Bundle, so I leave that....

I click 'Do It' and it takes a few seconds, and says 'success!'

So, with a smile on my face, I figure I should reboot the server to ensure stuff takes effect.


Nothing. Once it's back up, it seems (I'm not sure how to confirm) to be installed, but when I navigate to the secure WHM login, it still says unknown certificate publisher...

..In Firefox and Safari.

What did I do wrong?

amendment: it works when i go to https://ryba.mycompany.co.uk/, but not when i go to the WHM or cPanel secure logins, on ports 2087/2083...

I admit I am not sure on how to fix that problem, but my questions is why would you care?

The self signed SSL you use for WHM is a legitimate 128bit Encrypted SSL. The browsers giving warnings about SSLs are for the unsuspecting users who don't know, but you do or should know. I only buy SSLs for my business' website, or websites that will be viewed by then general public. The browsers recognize the SSL vendor and as a result the browsers trust the SSL and advise the users to trust it as well.

Since you do not want just anyone logging into WHM then you shouldn't care if the browser trust the SSL, you know its perfectly fine.

Well, I have different experience:

Here is my server:

WHM 11.11.0 cPanel 11.15.0-C17853
CENTOS Enterprise 4.5 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0

I have upgraded apache to version 2.2. Then SSL was not recognized or considered unsafe from IE. This problem persists.

So, I have downgraded apache to version 1.32. Some of the minor problems cured, but SSL site is not showing safe on IE. But from Firefox, it just shows without any problem.

SSL was purchased from GeoTrust RapidSSL Premium. Somehow, it is recognized from FireFox, but not from IE.

Anyone has similar experience and have a fix for this?

in WHM, check Main >> Service Configuration >> Manage Service Certificates

I have resolved the problem by downgrading Apache back to version 1.32.

Open SSL was updated with latest version.

Somehow, Cpanel 11 kicks SSL with www.domain.com to domain.com. The certificate was for www.domain.com. This caused the problem.

When httpd.conf was corrected to www.domain.com, it worked fine.
