Default rebuild Apache w/ 4.4.2, apache fails

    I have a WHM server running Apache 1.3.34 w/ PHP 4.4.1 on Centos 4.3

Yesterday I attempted to rebuild Apache with PHP 4.4.2. The build completed, and httpd failed to start. I recompiled again, thinking maybe something occurred during the build process, httpd failed to start again. To get httpd running again, I had to once again recompiled with PHP 4.4.1

Any ideas on what would prevent apache from running with PHP 4.4.2?

I am facing exactly the same problem. Is there any solution?

What errors do you get from Apache when it fails?

Could it possibly be an issue with the Apache config? Have you tested the config to check if there are any errors?

ran a config test, no errors. apache startup error would say something about the httpd.pid file was overwritten, possibly due to a bad shutdown, something like that.

Check Apache and messges log files for any errors:
    /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log
    /var/log/messages
Also, make sure all Apche modules are working.

I'm hoping thomas1 will also try debugging this issue. The server I admin is for my employer, a corporate entity, so I can't attempt installing apache with php 4.4.2 again until i know it'll work (every little bit of downtime is loss of $$ for the company)

here's output from my logs, when i was trying the recompile on tuesday. the 3rd line down has the httpd.pid error, it would occur every time i tried to restart the bad apache, then i recompiled to the working apache/php 4.4.1, it all started up. there was no other useable error info, but here's what the apache error log showed anyways...

Check on Apache libphp and make sure it is not corrupted.

I apologize for my ignorance, but how might I check the libphp for corruption?
