Default Recreate Accounts from Restored HOME Dir

    Hello everyone.

I have encountered a nifty little problem.

We lost our server due to an undiscovered "shellbot".

We have rebuilt the server with a new hard drive. We have access to the old drives and can mount them and access the files.

Is there a way to recover the accounts from a copied HOME directory.

My idea was to copy over /var/named /home and /var/cpanel/users

what else would help me get the accounts back. Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: This is what we got from someone:

    Mattson is Eppling@5nWcSHZkrQU.64.69.47.O * Linux
    calpop2.freaks-network.com 2.6.9-34.ELsmp #1
    Mattson on #Atk33
Mattson using irc.dRoneIRC.org dRoneIRC - Volta do IRC brasileiro
Mattson has been idle 4hrs 2mins 50secs, signed on Sat Sep 30 07:00:14
    Mattson End of /WHOIS list.
can someone help me with this....any insight.....

Does that mean you don't have backup? Is /etc directory there?

I have access to the old drive.

So I can get anything from /etc /var or home that we would need.

Also, is there a way to restore MySQL DBs from MYI files??

    you will need

    /etc/passwd
    /etc/group
    /etc/localdomains
    /etc/remotedomains

    at the very least

Why not copying all of the DB from the old to the new HD.

You need to copy over more than those few dirs. There's an excellent thread over here that covers what you need to do nicely:
