Recursion locally

Hello,

How can I allow recursion for looking up domains locally. I host xx.com. Current I get this:

root@host [~]# nslookup xxx.com localhost
Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1#53

** server can't find xxx.com: SERVFAIL


I've tried searching these forums but with no avail.

That sounds more like your DNS server may be down or misconfigured
or even that zone file missing than a recursion issue.

Recursion blocks generally don't look like that

Howdy,

This could also depend on what nameserver you're using. If you're using NSD it won't take care of recursion like this. It's only going to respond to records that it owns.

If you're using bind, it sounds like you might need to work over the config file. I would recommend backing up the zones and the named.conf and take a look at '/scripts/rebuildnamedconf'.

My DNS is not down... It's bind and I've tried that script but still with no avail. Is there anything else that I should try?
