    Default Repeated Password Prompt Problem

    Hi;

    I have this issue with multiple servers, which is a repeated password prompts when trying to access WHM or cPanel or Webmail. Even if the login was successful and the page starts to load, a prompt keeps coming up every time the page is loading something.

    I have tested this from multiple browsers and computers with the same result (which means it's not a local issue)

    I'm running cPanel 11.25.0-R42404 - WHM 11.25.0 - X 3.9 on CENTOS 4.8.

    Also i'm running csf v4.88.

    Anyone can help with this or had a similar issue?

    What kind of authentication are you using, http or cookie? For http auth it's possible to be redirected from one URL to another and in this case it will ask for password twice. For example first access http://serverip/whm that is redirected to http://servername:2086

    (I don't think csf has anything to do with your problem)

    I think http auth is used, but the question is that it used to work fine until couple of weeks ago, so what has changed?

    And what i have noticed is that after i put the password for the first authentication and the page starts to load, it then starts to prompt for the password for every item that is loaded on the page (images, icons, etc).

    So to answer your question, the repeated password prompt happens even after the original redirect happens from http://server/whm to http://server:2086

    Try to access WHM with url:port, in order to avoid redirects. Check the image address if is the same as your url:port.

    Question

    Did you ever solve the issue, Ahmed?

    We have the exact same problem when using cpanel 11.25, but if we downgrade to 11.24 we do not problems with hundreds of authentication pop-ups.

    It is truly annoying, because our host facility keeps auto-updating to 11.25 and we lose access to cpanel/phpmyadmin until their support can downgrade it again.

    Default Still not fixed

    Stephen;

    Still having the problem, it is a major annoyance but I'm unable to find a fix.

    Can anyone get cPanel to look at this??

    Same here... getting password prompts in all frames multiple times. Is cPanel working on a fix? That goes for quite a while now.

    Default Possible resolution

    We had a ticket submitted on this issue yesterday. The repeated password prompts stopped after the server administrator changed the root password. We had not done anything else to the server. I wanted to share this so that other people with the same problem could try changing the root password on their affected servers. Please let us know your results.

    I tried that, and still having the same issue.

    I don't see how changing the root password would fix the problem, since the issue is not just with WHM, it's also with cPanel and Webmail.

    I saw the same issue so I unticked

    Main >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings

    Validate the IP addresses used in all cookie based logins. This will limit the ability of attackers who capture cPanel session cookies to use them in an exploit of the cPanel or WebHost Manager interfaces. For this setting to have maximum effectiveness, proxydomains should also be disabled.

    The problem went away
