    Default Rotate mailman logs

    Hi;

    I noticed that mailman logs were not being rotated -

    root@pac 3 [/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs]# ls -alt
    total 40364
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 5763981 Dec 10 08:00 smtp
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 141344 Dec 10 05:20 bounce
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 19075 Dec 10 05:20 vette
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 149123 Dec 9 17:50 qrunner
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 7850872 Dec 9 17:34 post
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 157865 Nov 22 12:42 subscribe
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 27146157 Nov 20 09:58 smtp-failure
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 634 Oct 19 09:31 mischief
    drwxrwsr-x 22 mailman mailman 4096 Aug 25 12:17 ../
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 mailman mailman 5281 Aug 16 03:04 error
    drwxrwsr-x 2 mailman mailman 4096 Jun 1 2005 ./

    I have added the below lines to /etc/logrotate.conf to rotate them. Is this correct?

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/smtp {
    weekly
    rotate 1
    }

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/smtp-failure {
    weekly
    rotate 1
    }

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/post {
    weekly
    rotate 1
    }

    OR is it better to add it within /etc/logrotate.d - I am not sure if this will work.

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/* {
    missingok
    compress
    postrotate
    endscript
    }

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks.

    For me, rotating all of the logs is a bad idea. If you ever need to trace a subscribe, it is a lot harder if the logs are gone.

    hey

    I have also just spotted those logs, mine are growing and have dates from APRIL in them.

    I really cant see why rotating them should be a problem.
    Maybe restart syslog or exim once you have rotated them ?

    comments welcome.. pleez
    cheers

    What if you rotate a log and a ... big spider crawls from underneath.

    My logs are rotating fine after I added these lines.

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/smtp {
    weekly
    rotate 1
    }

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/smtp-failure {
    weekly
    rotate 1
    }

    /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/logs/post {
    weekly
    rotate 1
    }
