Script to find aol forwarding addresses?

As you all know, if any cpanel user has created a forwarding address to auto-forward to an "@aol.com" email address... then this can quickly result in your server IP being banned from AOL.

(And thus, many other unhappy customers on the same shared server who complain of aol blocking their email...)

Can anyone tell me if there is an "easy" way to check if there are any "@aol.com" forwarding email addresses setup in *any* cpanel on the server?

Yep, go to /etc/valiases and do

grep aol.com *

. That will show all aol forwarders and for which domain.

You still have to remove them manually, though...

Ha! I didn't even notice! Sorry about that.

Kudos to you for being resourceful enough to do something about it. Can you write one that automatically removes the forwarders, too? (I posted on your other thread earlier about that.) I have a couple of clients who keep adding them back even though I told them not to. I'm about to boot their asses off my server for it if they keep it up...

I'm not sure how to do that, as it would involve manipulating some kind of "email list" file.. .

But I'm sure any decent perl programmer could do it easily.

I think you're best to submit a new feature request to cpanel, with a link to my script, and ask them to incorporate it into cpanel and/or create the ability to NOT allow "aol/comcast/whatever" forwarders to be created.

ie:

Enter a comma-seperated list of domains that are forbidden for fowarders: "aol.com, comcast.com, yahoo.com, whatever.com"

Sent it in as a feature request and in 3 years maybe they might implement it.
