Default Is 'seamless' copying of hosting accounts possible, including email?

    Hi All,

I want to copy a website, including all email accounts, from server A to server B using the WHM function "Copy an account from another server".

Is there a way to achieve this such that, even given propagation effects, mail that is initially sent to the old server (during the propagation period) is automatically forwarded/copied to the new server after propagation is complete?

I ask because we've recently copied a website hosting as described, but are now having to manually log back into the old mail accounts on the old mail server (via web mail) to forward mail to the new server. In a perfect world we'd be able to manage the site move/copy such that we wouldn't have to do this - it would look after itself.

    Possible?

    Thanks.

P.S. this is one of those issues that it's really hard to know what keywords to seach for to see if this question has been asked and answered before - so apologies if it has.

    The answer is no.

What I do is set the old server to forward all mail to an email address not affected by the move so anything that lands there arrives soemwhere uselful.

Thanks for sharing that solution. Didn't think of that. Any other takers?

We just firewalled off port 25 inbound on the old server so the mail would be queued up on the sending server. Once the sender server detected the changed IP (to the new server), it should resend (you may encounter problems if it takes longer than 72 hours to do the migration though).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would work fine for a movement of ALL hosting accounts from one server to another, but not suitable if you're just moving 1 account (of many) from a server. It would be very cool if you could achieve the same effect for a single account.

Would it not work to just change the old DNS record to reflect the new IP address? This should cause *any* requests for the new domain to be forwarded, no?
