second nameserver setup question

Hi

I'm setting up my first Dedicated server with Cpanel/WHM

What I want to do:

I have 1 server

But I do not want the nameserver to be my main domain. i.e. not ns1 myHostingCompany.com etc.

Instead I want ns1.genericName.com etc

What I havedone so far:

registered the ns1.genericName.com as a dns(not the real name btw)

Set them up as primary & secondary .

I have not registered myHostingCompany.com as dns.

Should I do this too or can I just use the generic?

Also is there a snapshot anywhere of how a DNS zone should look when you go to edit DNS screen??

You can, put your hosting company on your server as a reseller with your own nameservers.

Then if you ever need to change the main ip or host domain name of the server it won't mess up all your own accounts.

Put a domain on the server and then look at the dns for that domain, take a snapshot of it.

if your asking about there being a snapshot of a standard dns setup on WHM, I haven't seen it, but I am sure if you search Google you prob could find something.

I also changed my server name under WHM 6.2.0

It looks like it worked.

I heard conflicting reports that it doesn't work through WHM?

It looks like it worked when I look at the dnsreport.com.
