Securing SSH

Hi. I was trying to implement the tips located at http://www.cpanel.net/security/commontips.htm, but I'm having a problem changing the SSH port. After changing the port to (example) 3000, I restart SSH, then try opening a new session. My connection to 3000 is refused.

I thought at first that our hosting company might have a firewall, but when I tried a new session connecting to port 22, it still worked!?? I've gone through the process a few times to ensure no typos on my part. I'm at a loss. Anyone out there have a suggestion? Thanks.

Did you remove the "#" at the beginning of the line ?
