sendmail: sendmail cannot be called directly from a shell with the current user id

so .. i dont have smtp, im running FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE

the line :
sendmail: sendmail cannot be called directly from a shell with the current user id

and if i add in /etc/rc.conf
sendmail_enable="YES"
sendmail_submit_enable="YES"

dont start

so .. any idea? what user i must to have to start sendmail? or in what option on whm i can setup to run ?

Please try this
To stop sendmail:
cd /etc/mail
make stop

To start sendmail:
cd /etc/mail
make start

You need to enable mta_start_script path in /etc/rc.conf file.

Hello

I am having the same problem on my server.
Mail works fine for pop3 and imap but this problem occures when a billing script i have is running a schedule to auto send invoices or reminders to clients.
After this script run i get a mail from server saying :
sendmail: sendmail cannot be called directly from a shell with the current user id

Please any idea wht this might be?
