Default seperate email server for several servers.

    Hello,

We decided to make a separate email server for all of our servers running cpanel.

We think having one exclusive mail server will help the loads and efficiency of all the other servers.

I would like everything to remain the same as normal but use one smtp and one pop3 for every account.

This would run the email through a exclusive server made just to server email.

My hopes are redirecting the mx server wide will keep the customers cpanel settings and just have them change there mail server settings on there computer to the new mail server.

Has anyone done this or have any advise on how to do this?

I appreciate any advice we just started the project and need any direction we can get.

    Thank you,

    Charles

    Default Similar situation

I am a potential new customer for cpanel and have basically the same question.
Currently my SendMail mailserver (on Linux) processes 2 to 3 Million emails every 24 hours.
Forcing this load onto the same webserver just doesn't make sense to me. The web server is already running 300+ domains (not counting MySQL & PostGres, lots of PHP and Perl)
I fear we'd end up with a server that would not be able to keep up with the demands we've placed upon it. (Even if you have enough hardware, your NIC can only process so much at any given time).
To place everything on 1 server is like putting all your eggs into one basket... if you break, EVERYTHING is down...

I want to run sendmail on a separate server and still use cpanel so that my clients can control their email settings, etc.

Can this be done? Or am I wasting my time trying to make cpanel do something it is not designed for or simply cannot do.

I'm not worried about purchasing a 2nd license for the mail server if need be. Maybe I could use 2 separate cpanels for each client? one for the webserver and one for the mailserver?

But: Will Cpanel on the webserver choke because it can't "do it's thing" by setting the email stuff up on the same box as the website?

    thanks for any help here...
    Randee

PS: If it matters, I really don't wish to change to the exim mail server... Sendmail is a great mailserver... even if it is complicated, it can do so much... and is VERY solid.

    Default maybe

Maybe... We just purchased a 2nd cpanel license and going to setup separate accounts on it for everyone...
so they will have 2 cpanel logins... one for their website and one for their email.

I think we may be able to link the email button in their website control panel to the email server... but that's just speculation at this point... we think we can anyway...

Was sure hoping someome from cpanel would comment on this thread with suggestions or ideas or whatever...
but not a single word -
    Maybe it's a taboo subject?

I don't mind buying a second Cpanel license but do not want to manually create the accounts on the other server.

I heard Hsphere had something like that... oh well
    Thanks for your info. Dino
