    Default Serious Permission Problem

I was transferring files from another server to the current one, and I had to chown the directory for it but I think I accidentally chowned the home dir and now ALL accounts when logging in via FTP appear to be blank! And all mail accounts are giving the error :

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was
    rejected. Account: 'mail.speedyhost.com.au', Server:
'mail.mailserver.com, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot find
a valid mailbox for sales', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
    0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

ALL accounts appear blank when logged in via FTP, and none of the mail accounts work... What the hell did I do Is there anyway to fix this! Please if someone can provide some info on how to correct this it would be much appreciated...

If you only did an inproper chown you are somewhat in luck, if you did the wrong chown your in alot of trouble.

    chown user:group -R /home/user

You need to do that for each and every user on your server and their home directory. The user:group are the same in cpanel so really it is user:user.

Needless to say that is why you should always be very careful as root
