As an FYI, we've already posted the resolution to cPanel as part of the open ticket we created and copied Nick directly on it (so no need to report it to them again). Hopefully Nick will figure out what in upcp is causing the problem with system auditing.Originally Posted by Rubas
Did you try disabling the cpanel update scripts? we had 2 servers ages ago that had RAID on em, and ended up it was cpanels nightly updates causing the problem of the servers crashing every night
It was the laus package of RHEL 3 update 3.
server crash every 2nd day @ same time :)
I'm having the same issues on a server at the moment. I have disabled and removed laus, and will see if this makes a difference.
Jee
A new box of mine (4 days old) is crashing every 2 days aswell, there is nothing on the box at the moment.
Running:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 4)
cPanel 9.9.9-R70
kernel: 2.4.21-27.0.1.ELsmp
on:
dual xeon 2.8
2GB ram
2 x 120GB hdd (not RAID)
/scripts/cpbackup is running at 1am every day (backup is currently disabled)
/scripts/upcp is set to run at 3:34am at this point the server then goes down and needs a hard reboot.
The error on the console at the time of outage is:
Code: 8b 48 08 85 c9 0f 84 84 00 00 00 8d 87 00 fe ff 893 f8 06
Kernel panic Fatal exception
Can anyone confirm what is needed to be done to stop this crashing every 2 days?
I have another server exactly the same spec apart from it's running Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 2), which has been up for 138 days without a problem.

I have this problem but I do not have LAUS or Audit installed.
Atleast the files you are talking about does not excist.
Server hang/freeze about once per day but different times.
Needs a reboot to come back up.
There's no load on the server when it happens.
No stuff in log files.
NOC can't find anything either and latest kernel is installed.
Same here. I don't have laus installed and server crashes after cPanel update. Any suggestions.

I have same problem with
xeon 2.4 dual cpu
2 gb ram
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 4)
Pls help to fix this
According to our datacenter (servermatrix) kernel 2.4x is known to have
problems with certain raid controllers.
So they installed kernel 2.6 instead and everything is fine now.
Are you sure this problem is kernel ?
I have installed 2.6.10 with grsec but nothing changed .
well im running 2.6.10 and the problem still exists for me!
