Question server load - is this normal

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

    3952 named 18 0 40016 5640 2048 S 1.0 0.5 0:35.83 named
    8766 mysql 16 0 109m 22m 2552 S 0.0 2.2 0:17.75 mysqld
    3948 root 17 0 30348 26m 2192 S 0.0 2.7 0:17.18 spamd
    5084 root 16 0 3060 972 704 R 0.7 0.1 0:11.80 top

Named seems to be using too much CPU time I can't figure out why.

    Mysql is high too ?

Any suggestion how to troubleshoot this ?

    Thanks.

from what you are showing everything looks fine to me, mysql always runs a bit hot when used but that isnt even starting to heat up by the looks.

Well; high server load issue has been discussed many times on these forums. The problem is not MySQL or Named necessarily. There are many factors involved in high server load. To learn more, read:

    Hi,

Mysql usage was explained by Andy Read & kistler. I think you are more bothered about the optin "Time+" . Its acutllay "Total CPU time the named process has used since it started". And this might have caused due to various problems as others has said(actually i assume its not an issue).

    Default Give us more information

Why do you think MySQL using 1.0% of cpu resources is high? if you want help you need to give use more information like the system load. If the system load is really high it's not because MySQL is using 1.0%.
