Setting up backup server thatsyncs every night

Is there any tips on how to config a fallback setup. Maybe something like having a load balancer in front and point the traffic to one server, and then at night or so the back server copies an entire image of the primary server. So if the primary server shoul dfail, we can simply point the load balancer to the back up server?
