    Default SFTP instructions inside cPanel

Noticed that when you cilck on Configure FTP Client inside FTP Accounts in cPanel, you are now given reg files that will help users gain SFTP access. For whatever reason, the regishtry hack does not work for Filezilla. Is there a way to manually enter this info in so that we don't have to use FTP and move to SFTP 100%?

I guess the questions I am asking is, when we create a new FTP account, can these credentials be used to log in using SFTP? If so, how can we set up the client?

ok, I think the SFTP access is not allowed for virtual FTP accounts. No wonder tings did not work. I saw another thread that cpanel techs already know about the confusing info inside Configure FTP Client for virtual accounts.

Next question. Is there a setting inside WHM somewhere that can allow us to change the FTP port from 21 to something else?

Correct, SFTP is only for cPanel users, not the virtual FTP accounts created by cPanel users. However virtual users can use FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS).

There is no screen in the WHM interface where you can change the FTP port.

    Hey David,

I think we discussed this previously but there was no resolution at the time. Let's try again. Is there a way to create another cpanel user, so we can give another person SSH access, but with a different user ID + pw AND still make sure permissions from files uploaded and edited by the secondary cpanel user are still assigned to the original cpanel user?

This would be very useful and allow us to stop using FTP all together.

Creating additional cPanel users for a single hosting account is not supported at this time.

When a virtual user connects using TLS, does it just encrypt the username & password, or does it encypt the data transfer as well?

it depends upon whether you have the command channel, the data channel, or both channels encrypted.

How do I encrypt those channels? OR rather, where in WHM do I set it to encrypt those 2 channels?

If using Pure-FTPd and cPanel/WHM v11.25 there is more granular tuning available via the FTP Server Configuration page in the root WHM control panel. With Pure-FTPd and v11.25 you should see the following options for the TLS Encryption Method drop-down menu: Disabled, Optional, Required (Command), Required (Command/Data)

    Documentation References:
    v11.25: FtpConfig < AllDocumentation/WHMDocs < TWiki
    v11.24: FtpConfig < 11_24/WHMDocs < TWiki

Data channel TLS is only available in Pure-FTP 1.0.22.

Is this something that is upgraded when you install cPanel 11.25?

Another words, is pure-ftpd something that cPanel keeps updated or is it suppose to be updated with system binary updates?

We just published Pure-FTPd 1.0.22 to CURRENT. It will track cPanel 11.25 into RELEASE and STABLE.
