Shared SSL Certificate in WHM, what does that really do?
Hi,
In WHM > Manage SSL Hosts There is a drop down menu allows you to choose already installed SSL host to "share" when you select a SSL host and click "share", it returns: The ssl certificate domain.com is now shown as the shared certificate. what really happen behind the scene? like in configuration files, ..etc ? how does that work? Shared ssl allows people to use the ssl cert for ther site by placing their site in a virtual sub directory. eg www.youhost.com/~user1/ This means they can use the certificate for www.youhost.com |

I'm unclear on this one, too. The certificate installed seems to work the same whether I have it selected as shared or not.
I have the cert registered to the hostname, and the owner is listed as "nobody". The problem I'm trying to resolve is that when I use the cert on a subaccount (https://www.mydomain.com/~username), I get a warning that the cert doesn't match the website address. I can click on OK to proceed anyway, but I'm not sure if every user is going to do that; or worse, if newer browser versions are going to allow it. Is there a way to get around this error on my end? |

https://your.hostname.com/~username If the cert is for your hostname, then you should not get an error provided SSL has been correctly installed. If you could paste the exact error here, we could have a better idea.

Newbie
Hi, I'm a newbie to the cpanel interface and was needing to set up SSL Certificates for two new domains that are hosted on the server. I found this post and hope this isn't going to de-rail it, but I could really use some help.
I noticed after I went under "manage ssl hosts" that apparently there was already a certificate set up for one of the domains on the account. "The shared ssl certifcate is shown to be: secure.domain.com" Can anyone show me how to take this and set it up for two other domains? Is that possible, or do I need to create new ones? Thanks again for anyone who responds! Last edited by SMathews; 01-06-2009 at 02:13 PM. Reason: grammar |
