    Default Shared SSL How-To?

Anyone know how to setup a Shared SSL Certificate in WHM/cPanel or know of a how-to guide?

WHM makes it extremely easy to accomplish this.

I have installed three brands of certifications in WHM.

    FreeSSL
    GeoTrust
    InstantSSl

InstantSSL is by far the easiest. You can order pretty much through WHM. Fill in all of your company data. Once the order is complete, you jsut log back into WHM and go to "purchase and install certificate"... One click and you rpretty much done.

A typical set up which would be more for geotrust would be:

Obtain a CSR( go to "Generate a SSl signing certificate") in WHM. Fill in all of your company data again (YOU MUST FILL IN ALL TEXT BOXES!).Create and copy(save) the certificate in the following page. Go to the certificate authorities website and order a certificate. They should ask you for a CSR, which you have just done above. Paste the certificate in the box they provide. At this point you will need to do any setup routines( such as voice correspondence and email verification, etc.). Once the cerification company has verify your information to be correcet and your purchase has been made. They will email you your "SSL certificate" and an "RSA Key". It looks like below(only longer).

    Your Certificate:

    ----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
    MIRDaDCCKUHGkjhdf345338478sdfICDo4wDQY
    asdf8&SDT8d76fs8df7DF6s8dFfs87d6fsdf87sdf

    7d6fsdf87sdfKJUGDS786hddsdfsdfsdHIU776SD2
    ----------END CERTIFICATE------------

    RSA KEY:

    -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
    MIRDaDCCKUHGkjhdf345338478sdfICDo4wDQY
    asdf8&SDT8d76fs8df7DF6s8dFfs87d6fsdf87sdf
    KJUGDS786hddsdfsdfsdHIU776SD23434KJG34
    MIIDaDCCKUHGkjhdf345338478sdfICDo4wDQY
    asdf8&SDT8d76fs8df7DF6s8dFfs87d6fsdf87sdf
    KJUGDS786hddsdfsdfsdHIU776SMIRDaDCCKUH
    Gkjhdf345338478sdfICDo4wDQYasdf8&SDT8d7

    7d6fsdf87sdfKJUGDS786hddsdfsdfsdHIU776SD2
    -------- END RSA KEY---------

After you have recieved the certificate. InWHM, Go to "Install an SSL Certificate and Set-Up the Domain" Go to the domain textbox and enter the domain to which you orderd the Cert from:

    secure.mysite.com
enter the username and Ip to which the account is located on.

Paste the "certificate" in the top box labeled "CRT" in WHM.
paste the "RSA" Key in the textbow located under the IP Address box(Labeled KEY). Ignore teh CA bundle box unless your are sent one for the type of cert you got.

After you have pasted the cert amd key and setup it up to be on correct domain.
In the right top hand corner click "Do IT"

From there you will see the output from your request. Sometimes you may receive an error message from the cert. I would re-check that you installed on the correct domain and IP. Even made sure you placed the certs int he corect boexes.

If all is successful there should be a message by Cpanel that the "SSLCertificate has been installed" and that apache has been restarted ok.

Once you have complete this, You must give the server some time to propegate the SSL Server. It can take anywhere from 2-8 hours or more in some cases. If you dont see your https://www.domain.com up and running right away, just give it sometime. Within awhile you will see it have been installed.

    Some notes:

    1. A certificate must be on an active domian name and be install on an IP.

    2. You may need to give the server sometime for the SSL site to appear. Cannot Display page may arise.

    3. If there was an error in your setup and the secure domain will not run. Re-Enter steps above and check "this is a replacement cert" in WHM->Install and setup Domain" page.

    4. Certificate autorities may require a copy of you business license, whois report,m or invoices from your company to maintain the integrity of the SSL Cert. There are sometimes many steps in the verification process.

    5. I fyou need further help Search this forums, contact your cert support or search google. For most of the answers are available.

    Good Luck ,

    Kyle
