Shouldn't Forwarding Stop when mailbox is full?

A user sets his mail account to XMB
Sets forwarding to a 2GB Gmail account.
1 MB is filled up since ages but he is happy getting mails at gmail all forwaded from a already filled up account.

Ideally, if a account gets full, should all forwarding also STOP!
Is this a BUG? Or a Feature.

They're completely different things as far as exim is concerned (forwarding and local delivery), so it's a feature of the way exim works.

Hmm. So a guy set's his mail account to 1MB quota and enjoys all mails receiving upto 2 GB that these crap mail services offer. Actually there are certain places which do not allow these crap accounts to be used up for signup and this is where the "Feature" of exim is used to their advatntage but to the disadvantage of ppl like us.

Thats in the eye of the beholder. I'd rather not have crap mail stored on the server in the first place. I've had users that received "Your inbox is full" errors, yet still had the messages forward on. Dependent upon application, it is probably best this way.

We do not allow those "Unlimited Everything" on hosting accounts. What worries me though is that a single mail account on few domains is purposely configured for 1 to 2 mb and then mails forwarded to the FREE account and this 1 or 2 mb mail acount is never really accessed and is solely for purpose of signup to accounts where these FREE mail services are allowed in signup. This is something like putting up in a Five Star hotel but going out to fast food corners for food :-)

Ideally the user should not setup any boxes on your server if they want to do this. They should just setup a Forward to gmail. However most people think they need to "create" an email address by creating an email box. They never check their on server email box and the server queue is filled with "mailbox" full messages.

What I do is simply delete the mailbox and leave the Forward. They get mail the way they want without slowing down email for others.

In the end whether they use a 2gb mailbox or a 50mb mailbox is irrelevent. I personally can't understand why anyone would want to store that much mail online!

However some smarties have figured out how to use gmail space for hosting their web accessible images...

True. However we just deleted the forwarder and informed the client(s) after increasing the quota of such mailbox(es) as the email address is subscribed to many trade alert lists / AR (which normally do not accept bounce messages.

True if one stores 2 GB of mail it's ridiculous. It's ideally suited for those SCAMMY GPTR schemes which sends out hundreds of mails to a given account each day. In fact 9 out of 10 times i just delete mails coming from FREE Mail Services and 9/10 times they are promo mails coming from "Unlimited Everything" type of hosting account offeres, unless it is a known person .... and no i do not want boxtrapper stuff running to handle that :-)
