It seems that sometime during the week one of the nightly CPanel updates stopped SMTP Auth running on our server. On investigation we found if we alter the permissions on /home/user/etc/ folder to 775 and change contents of the folder to 755 SMTP Auth works.
But then the overnight upcp runs and changes the permissions on these back to 770 and 644 respectively, causing the problem to occur again.
It also seems that mail accounts on the server who try to email each other using SMTP are receiving bounce backs with the message "Unroutable domain error - Sender
verify failed". But this does not happen if they email using Webmail.
We've tried the usual backend script to try and fix things but nothing has worked.
We've had a ticket open with CPanel for 2 days and not had a response even though I've chased.
