SMTP error 550 - localdomains is fine

I've got one reseller in Japan on this server. This issue first cropped up for him about 2 weeks ago when the last security update deal happened and we updated Cpanel. The problem last time seemed to be fixed by restarting relay. Customer is back with the same error message; he and his clients are having email that is sent to a domain that's not on his server bounce with a 550 error:


2004-06-27 11:39:52 H=yahoobb218120066008.******** (fmvne4) [**********] F=<************> rejected RCPT <************>: yahoobb218120066008.******* (fmvne4) [********] is currently not permitted to relay through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the pop/imap server in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on in your email client.


This wouldn't be nearly as irritating if it didn't appear so erratic. We ran /scripts/fixrelayd and restarted relay already. I checked /etc/localdomains (no issues there). I sent test emails from my personal domain on his server and from a test account on one of his domains that he supplied the first time this error occured to my business account on another box, and have no trouble sending the emails. I'm wondering if adding some IP addresses to /etc/relayhosts will fix the problem, but don't know exactly how that works or if it's even necessary as the issue is sporadic. It's really becoming a headache for all parties involved.


So, anyone got any other ideas?

I'll answer my own question.

To clarify, it was, to my knowledge, one reseller and his domains that were having the problem.

The easy fix? antirelayd wasn't running.

Hope someone finds this to be of help and I don't have EVERYONE laughing at me

Ok, now that I know what to go restart... does anyone have any ideas about why it would be going down so frequently or have any ideas about how I could have it checked every 5 minutes or so and restarted if necessary? Maybe adding it to chkservd?

are you on a freeBSD server by chance ??

You may want to double check the WHM change log, but they just released a CURRENT tree, 9.4.1-CURRENT_63 which I believe is suppose to address this issue with freeBSD

I'll try that... I upgraded to the version posted today with upcp --force, but will have another go at it.

Change log shows 9.4.1 build 56 was supposed to fix it... running another --force to see if it picks anything up.

you may need to change your "Upgrade Preference" setting in the WHM to "CURRENT build" if it's not set for that update, before running the update

Ok, I guess that the most recent CURRENT build then. Have you tried switching to the STABLE build ?? I'm not fimilar with the freeBSD Cpanels tho,... just guessing now

I appreciate the help. Ran upcp --force twice for stable, still get 9.2.0 with the warnings about the mod_php security hole. None of these updates have fixed the other issue I'm having with webmail either, so I'm back to the beginning.

Yeah, I've got one for my webmail issue as well... will have to break down and add in another question to have pretty much ignored on their end.
