    Default SMTP Tweak in whm/ tweak security

    what is this option and what effect does it have if enabled?

    Another example of cpanel releasing a new feature but no information about it

    Change your browser colors, you'll see it's explained there:

    This SMTP tweak will prevent users from bypassing the mail server to send mail (This is a common practice used by spammers). It will only allow the MTA (mail transport agent), mailman, and root to connect to remote SMTP servers.

    I saw the text in whm but what exactly does it mean and what effect will it have on customers?

    If you have a separate global squirrelmail install, it will stop working....

    I think you can configure it so it will use /usr/sbin/sendmail (i.e., Exim) to send mail.

    It appears it puts iptables rules in place to check the sending processes owner.

    Would this prevent scripts like phpbb and others from sending out emails ?

    Yes if you configure them to send mail via smtp. Nobody can make smtp connections except for root.
