some accounts not backed up

I have a problem when backing up accounts. I have a few accounts that are not being backed up. I checked to see if there usernames we checked for backup and they are. One of the accounts was setup on another server and then transfered to mine and when they setup the account they used caps in the domain name. I have a feeling this is causing this account not to be backed up. I am not sure whoe to change that. I tried modifying it but it won't change since its the same domain name. I have looked in the httpd and all the accounts are listed there.

Anybody have any ideas why some accounts are not included with the backup, or how I can change the domain name to small letters??

Make sure the partition where /backup directory is not full or didn't exceed its quota/disk usage.

Oh no thats not the problem. I have more than enough room for the backups. Thanks for the thought though.

You can change the domain name using modify an account in whm.

I have the same problem with some accounts not being backed up, these are accounts with - in the username.

example

username 123456 backs up fine
username 123-45 on same server will not backup as cpanel seems to see it as 12345 and that is already backed up.

there is no fix unless you change the username.

Not necessarily. I have seen so many clients with dash or hyphen in the username, yet the system backup their accounts. So, yours might be special case. Just in case you don't/can't find a solution yourself, you need to have a sys admin looking into this problem.

I have tried using the modify account feature but it won't change it because you are not acctually changing the domain name. I am just at a loss here. To respond to the comment about the - in a domain name. These accounts that are not backing up don't have a - in the domain name. One of them is just a plain domain. Of course then I still have the problem with the one that is in caps and how to change that. Anyone else have any ideas?

No all the user are checked to have their accounts backed up.

Check your /etc/passwd file - all of it

You may find that somone has used the change user name / domain name feature and it's left you with an incomplete entry in /etc/passwd as follows

:x:32007:32008::/home/user:/usr/local/cpanel/bin/noshell

Note the user is missing from the beginning of the entry.

If you go a

# grep '^:x' /etc/passwd

or

# grep '^x' /etc/passwd

It should be easy to find if that is the problem and to correct it, just remove the entry and the corresponding broken entries from /etc/shadow and /etc/group

The backup script walks down /etc/passwd and if there are any errors ( as above), it won't be able to proceed any further. I have seen this a lot.
