Default Spam assassin. Stop this service for one account?

    Hi Guys,

I would like to run Spam Assassin on my webspace but I also have an abuse E-Mail address which of course I don’t want the “spam” mails to be blocked.

Is it possible to have Spam assassin on but for my abuse e-mail address not to be Spam checked?

Sorry, it’s the best way I could put that one!

    Thanks,

I'd also realy like to be able to exclude an email address from SA, and haven't found a way. Have you made any progress with this?

It would seem that it wouldnt be hard to modify cpanel to allow email 'to' one account to pass unchecked, it shouldn't be much different from the way they setup the whitelist which allows email 'from' certain addresses to pass unchecked.

Any pointers on how one might go about this? I'd be happy if I could simply add some info to a SA configuration file somewhere that said "exclude email address xxx".

    Thanks,
cPanel has an option that allows you to configure spamassassin. Just add the email address you want to allow to the whitelist. Look under the mail menu for spamassassin.

If I'm not mistaken the whitelist is only used for who the email is from. That isn't what I want. I need to say don't check email to xyz@mydomain.com ie. one of my email accounts, not the sender.

I have not tried it, but I wonder if whitelist_to mailbox@domain.com would do the job?

    Goodmove is close!

You need to add this line to your preference file . . .

    whitelist_to address@domain.com

Still a problem here though, in my SA build the default score for whitelist_to is only -6.0 so you need to add this line to the preferences also.

    score USER_IN_WHITELIST_TO -99.00

Then it all works fine (for me)

    Hope this helps

    Hi Charlie,
Thanks for that. What is the name of the preference file and what directory is it typically in?

Using your FTP client go to
/.spamassassin/user_prefs and manually make the entries

There are some useful help lines with examples of the correct syntax.

    Default also

    You can also use:
    more_spam_to email@domainname.com (default = -20)
    or
    all_span_to email@domainname.com (default = -100)

Or you could just set this up to allow spam through and set it up as an option for your users to turn this on from their control panel. It's possible some legitimate email may get marked as spam and deleted, but if its set by the users, they have the option as to what they want to do with their mail.
