Default speed up the backup scripts?

Is it possible to speed up the backup scripts? Its taking forever to get done, and even while its running the load is down really low. I don't know if it chokes itself down to make the server run better, but if thats the case is there a way for me to make it stop doing that and speed itself up a bit?

The only way you're probably going to improve the resource usage is to switch from the full backups, which gzip and tarball the account files, to incremental backups, that simply take a copy of the files. However, it can be more difficult restoring a full server from incrementals.
