    Default Squirrel mail loosing messages

I have had two people that express that they are having issues with squirrel mail. Both are having the same issue and I am not able to re-create the problem. I thought I would post and see if anyone else has had this experience.

The users in both cases using squirrel mail from work. When they get home they use outlook to get
emails that were left in the squirrel mail inbox. Both people have expressed that email that was left in the inbox of squirrel mail was not being pulled from outlook and did not exist in squirrel mail anymore.

Any ideas... or should I tell them both to make sure that they log out of squirrel mail?

    Cheers;
    wade

    Dear wadearnold,

Outlook cannot download messages when Squirrel mail was accessing the mailbox. Because, Squirrel mail will create an exclusive lock over the mailbox when it is open. Try accessing the mailbox using outlook after logging out from Squirrel mail.

Since you say the problem is for only two users, ask them to try popping the mail using some other mailclient to confirm no problem in the mail client end.

I have a problem with this 'exclusive lock' with one of our clients caused by him using Outlook Express at his office, Squirrelmail/webmail at home.

The lock is on, but now the client can neither login to Squirrel Mail _nor_ access his mail via Outlook Express.

This is probably caused by him using Squirrel Mail at home, NOT logging off, and then trying to use Outlook Express at his work.

[B]My question - how best to remove the lock?{/B]

The files in my client's mail directory look like this:

    mail/xxx/bberven/inbox 16.37 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven 1.24 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/sent-mail 0.73 Meg
    mail/xxxbberven/INBOX.Sent 0.49 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/inbox.lock 0.00 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/.mailboxlist 0.00 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/INBOX.Trash 0.00 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/INBOX.Drafts 0.00 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/.cppop.cache 0.00 Meg
    mail/xxx/bberven/inbox.pop 0.00 Meg

Is it safe for me to simply delete inbox.lock, or is there a better, or more recommended, way?

    Thanks.

Out of curiosity, is this the cpanel sqmail install or your own? I had this happen one time on my own personal account, and I thought I was either a) crazy, b) someone cracked my password, or c) I inadvertantly deleted the e-mails by enabling spam assassin folders. I have had no other complaints, so I can't do any research...

It's the cpanel installed squirrel mail - NOT our own install.
