SSL certificate question

I have a question about an SSL certificate.

As far as I understand, an SSL certificate on CPanel/WHM only works with HTTPS traffic, not the mail protocols. How does this work for webmail(SSL port 2096) and CPanel (SSL port 2083)?

Should the customer buy a certificate (www.customer.com) to prevent an error when accessing Webmail and CPanel, or should I buy a certificate for my server? (serverX.MyhostingName.com).
And if I need to buy a certificate for my server, how does the customer need to access the webmail to prevent the SSL error.

For services (anything other than https://), you can have 1 certificate installed per service.

For cPanel, WHM and Webmail - you can install a certificate for a domain you choose (e.g. the server's hostname or your company's domain if it is hosted on that server). Then all you need to do is go to WHM -> Server Configuration -> Tweak Settings and for "When visiting /cpanel or /whm or /webmail with SSL, you can choose to redirect to:" set it to "SSL Certificate Name."

For other services such as IMAP, POP3, SMTP and FTP, it would be up to you how you wish to proceed. Some providers simply acquire a certificate for the server's hostname and instruct users to use the server's hostname to connect when connecting via SSL.
