SSL Install & httpd.conf. Apache Doesnt Start!

I have installed an SSL in WHM and it says that it succeeded.

When I look in the httpd.conf file I see no entry for the dedicatedip:443 virtualhost name.

After I add a virtualhost for the domain and I go to restart apache, the webserver becaome unavailable, until i remove the virtual host and it works again.

Any ideas? Why is WHM not creating the necessary httpd.conf line? is my system set up wrongly?

Make sure you're setting up this new ssl account on a different ip and you should be fine.

If you do "/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl configtest" when it's broken (after you've added the entry) it will tell you what the problem is. It may be an error in your syntax etc.

It's answer i didn't come across by searching these forums, and is why I am coming back to post the answer to my problems.

It transpires that if you are trying to install an ssl it needs to be anything other than the same host for the web site. be it www. or anything else.

I found that I was unsuccessful trying to install an ssl for the host:

www.domain.com

but was successful in installing an ssl for the host:

secure.domain.com

people should bare this in mind when they are about to blow 25 bucks or more on an ssl.
