Stop cpanel from reseting files

I have a highly customized server. I use lighttpd instead of apache. I tweaked chkservd to compensate for this (apache runs on a different port). I have changed one of the awstats config files to point to the new log file (from lighttpd), but it gets rewritten all the time. It's getting quite annoying... Is there any way to stop this from happening?

No, not really, that's the whole point of having the control panel in the first place. It sounds like you'd probably be better off looking at a bare linux solution perhaps with webmin/usermin installed if you don't want to use the daemons that cPanel controls.

I really like some of the controls that Cpanel has to offer. I do use them quite a bit... I'm just realizing that Lighttpd is turning out to be a FAR better solution to my needs than Apache 1.3 could ever be (I tried apache2, but that was a miserable failure). On one site I host, I went from getting request failures at 16 requests per second, to holding strong at over 220 requests per second (limited by my bandwidth). That difference is enough for me... I guess my next server will have to be clean linux with Webmin... I really like cpanel/whm, but if you say its not possible to modify it to my needs, then I guess it's not for me...

Have you tried Apache 2.0 or 2.2?

Both of those are far superior to Apache 1.3 and would be more compatible
with Cpanel than the 3rd party web server you are currently using.

Apache 2 and beyond has MUCH BETTER connection and resource managment!

I did, an it destroyed my server. I wound up having to do a manual rollback on all the config files, and manually install apache1.3. I tell ya, I REALLY like lighttpd after what I saw last weekend. I just wish there was a way of turning off some of the auto configurations inside Cpanel...

How about using chattr +i on the config files you don't want changed? When you need to change them do a chattr -i before attempting to do so. Have you tried that?

So in other words, you didn't have any idea what you were doing? *EVIL GRIN*

I've installed 2.0.59 and 2.2.3 on literally hundreds of Cpanel servers
with absolutely no problems whatsoever primarily because I know all the
mistakes that easyapache makes and can manually correct for those
in a couple of seconds so no problem.

Installed and setup correctly, Apache 2 will run circles around earlier versions of Apache
and any other web server out there hands down and is definitely the best way to go!
