Default subdomain that point to an IP address

A company have their own mail server with a static IP
I have created the main account like companyname.com and another account like mailserver.companyname.com on the same cpanel
How to edit the dns zone on the first account and on the second so the second will serve as only mailserver?
Do I have to change only the record "mail" from CNAME to A and set the IP?
    Is that all?

If I understand you correctly, you are saying this:

    1. You have an account set up on cPanel for "companydomain.com"
    2. Your company operates their own mailserver on a static IP address 1.1.1.1 (not local to the cPanel server)

If that is the case, then you simply want to do this (via http://www.companyname.com/cpanel):

    1. Edit the DNS zone for companyname.com

    a. change the "mail" CNAME record to an "A" record and point it to 1.1.1.1 (whatever the static IP of the mailserver is)

    b. Under "MX Entry", change the MX entry so that the MX is mail.companyname.com (instead of just companyname.com)

    c. Under "MX Entry" set it as a Remote Mailserver

NOTE: Why did you create another account specifically for mail.companyname.com? If the only reason you did that was so that you could attempt to adjust mailsettings, you don't need the account for mail.companyname.com. If you only want to use mail.companyname.com to point to the static iP of your mailserver, then remove the account for mail.companyname.com and just edit the DNS zone in the companyname.com account to direct mail to the proper remote mailserver.

    Ty Mike
    I will follow your suggestions.
The mailserver of the client use a firewall so just some ports are opened.
Do they open the same port that use the main server on cpanel for mails?
