Arrow Suggested max number of accounts at a cPanel server

We started with a small dedicated server and kept upgrading the hardware while we kept getting more clients, resulting in a 12GB, SCSI SAS 15rpm hard drive and a Intel Harpertown processor.

Right now we are 654 accounts on that server and after talking to our dedicated server provider because of some performance questions (cPanel didn't update stats correctly, took plenty of time to suspend an account, etc.), they said that despite the fact that we had enough hardware to host that number of sites, cPanel didn't played well with more than 400 accounts and suggested to split the server in 2, with less powerful servers.

Does anyone have any experience, ideas or suggestions regarding this? We have started to split the server over but would love to receive some feedback.

I've known servers to have a thousand accounts without issue, sometimes even a few thousand.

You may want to let our technical analysts take a look at your server to see what can be causing the issues: http://tickets.cPanel.net/submit
