Default System email not being sent

Sorry to repost this, thought this might need a separate topic instead of putting it on someone elses questions...

Root/System mail isn't being sent to me - ie if I create a new account, that email isn't sent to me (you know, the one where it says Account Created/Terminated etc) - but if I send via telnet, email or a script, it sends fine.

    the error is

In /etc/localdomains on server.dvd-critic.net - is there an entry for the server name in there? You should also ensure that there is a DNS entry on the other server or that it can do a valid lookup on the server name as well.

/etc/localdomains lists server.dvd-critic.net and the other domains on the server.
I have a DNS entry for server.dvd-critic.net too.

Anything else? It implies that the From header isn't set(?).

it gets better. I now put it wildwayz@clara.co.uk into WHM's default root mail forwarding section, and now I get the system messages - BUT they are all flagging as &Mail Returned& ie

    Hello?
    bdraco?!

    Anyone?

I still am not getting emails if I create/delete/modify an account in WHM - but email is working on the server (ie if I email myself or send email through the server).

PLEASE help me - I am getting no WHM emails. No Portsentry logs or logwatch reports!

What do I have to do to get a reply or fix to this?

Apart from Annette - noone else (cpanel team) give 2 hoots.

Server is a RH7.2 server, fresh install - installed Cpanel and no additional software.

For that new bounce - does it give a reason for the return? From what you've posted, it just looks like a standard nondeliverable.

What's happening is that the mail header doesn't have a valid from address in it.

This is the line that gets me

[b:2c8c8bdb35]SMTP&& 550 rejected: there is no valid sender in any header line (envelope sender is &&

Mail sent to root@server will generate that error by default unless you change the permissions for where the system wants to write it or change the destination address for root mail, so that's not a major concern. The concern is that mail properly generated from the origination server is not delivered appropriately to the recipient server. Without actually logging on to the box, it gets a little difficult as we go further along to guess what's going on. However, if you have a test account on that new server, try sending something to the other server via webmail, and watch the log (and see if the mail bounces back). I'd also test sending messages to some offnetwork address (Yahoo) and see if the mail is delivered properly. In the end, of course, a note to your distributor is in order, since this is part of the cPanel setup and they should be able to log in to your box for troubleshooting purposes as well.

    Hi,

I logged in via webmail on the server in question, and sent 2 emails... one to an address on the server, the other an address on another server.

    here's the exim_mainlog error..

exim has a debugging tool you can use from the shell:

    exim -bt -d9 account@example.com

the number after -d is the debug level, -d9 being the most detailed level.

Perhaps it can help you find where the problem lies...

Take a look at the exim_rejectlog too to see what header fields are causing problems.

    And also here:

    VERY weird....

I SSH'd into my problematic server and used Pine to send 2 emails...
    1 to my home ISP
    1 to my other webserver
    Home ISP's email arrived ok
    Other webserver didn't

    There isn't a reject/error log :/

I am willing to pay someone to fix this.
