    Exclamation Tomcat says "STABLE?" ... HUH

    Tomcat cannot be installed either freshly or by removing and re installing from addon modules, on new Stable and all other releases below.

    problem?
    checking wether the Java compiler (/usr/local/jdk/bin/javac) works... no

    Tested on:
    1 RH 9 -Fresh Install
    1 RH 9- Uninstall - Reinstall
    2 RHE 3 Fresh
    1 RHE 3 Uninstall - Reinstall

    tried several times on each, manually cleaned out dup entries in httpd and deleted java before trying again. Its a no go Houston...So much for Stable.

    Even though cPanel responded to my ticket saying it is the NOCs problem, how is that when their stable build broke Tomcat installs?.... I removed Tomcat from all servers and installed Resin. Worked and all JSP sites are up. Goes to show that Java works with Resin and not Tomcat = cPanel broke Tomcat and their ignorance will bite them in the ass one day.

    So move to Resin if you have the same issue and actually cut memory and CPU usage a great deal from Tomcat.

    Tomcat isn't STABLE, it quite clearly says it's still in BETA in Addon Modules and therefore should not be relied upon on a production server.

    You can fix it by going into /usr/local/jakarta/tomcat/bin/jsvc-src and installing jsvc manually:

    Code:
    ./configure --with-java=/usr/java
    make
    cp jsvc ../
    Then you can do
    Code:
    /usr/sbin/stoptomcat
    /usr/sbin/starttomcat

    Brilliant Casey! thanks that did the trick.

    Chirpy what I meant by Tomcat and Stable was Tomcat doesnt seem to think the cPanel Stable is all that Stable. Tried a fresh install on a server just delivered this morn and the same error. So cPanels latest so called "Stable" is far from it when it breaks java compiling and I lose all JSP for 2 days and a nice group of customers screaming and theres only one entity to blame and thats cpanels supposed stable. So thanks to Casey for the fix that I am sure many will need in the coming days. cPanel sometimes seems to drag its feet on things and this is a major bug they ignored so far.

    Go for Ruby on Rails, much more fun.

    Also make sure that server.xml ends in the following order, or things may randomly not work:

    Code:
    </Engine>
    </Service>
    </Server>
