    Default Too much spam

    Hi,

I am experiencing way too much junk email on my server. All of these emails are marked as [SPAM] because of the software built into cpanel. However is there any way of decreasing the amount of junk mail?

On my personal email account I am recieving at least 10 junk emails every day.

    Thanks

If you're noticing that it's typically dictionary attacks (ie. a lot of random addresses at your domain getting hit) then I'd recommend using http://configservers.com/free/eximdeny.html (Beating Chirpy to this )

Also you should make sure all default mailboxes are set to :fail: instead of :blackhole: which can help with bandwidth and mail bouncing around.

Spamasassin is already enabled, that is a standard component with cPanel.

I configured the server email to :fail: when i first set it up, I will have a look at this link though.

    Thanks

Is SpamAsassin really a resource hog as that site suggests? Loads of servers run it.

It uses resources like any antispam/antivirus solution because of the work it needs to do in determining a spam score for a each and every email that passes through the server. It's a matter of weighing up the benefits against the cost.

10 per day??? if I could get mine below 100 I would be happy ..that's with spam score in SA set to 5 and about 6 RBL networks configured as well.
